IRS Releases 2009 Cost-of-Living Adjustments for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs and Transportation Benefits
HSAs:
The HSA contribution limits and High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) requirements for 2009 will be:
- $3,000 for self-only coverage (a $50 increase from 2008) and
- $5,950 for family coverage (a $150 increase from 2008).
The catch-up contribution limit (for individuals who are 55 or older) is $900.
The required minimum annual deductible for 2009 is at $1,150 for self-only HDHP coverage and $2,300 for family HDHP coverage.
Maximum out-of-pocket expense limits for 2009 will be $5,800 for self-only coverage (a $200 increase from 2008) and $11,600 for family coverage (a $400 increase from 2008).
Transportation Benefits:
The monthly limit that can be excluded from an employee’s income for qualified parking benefits for 2009 will be $230 (an increase of $10 from 2008) and $120 for transit and vanpooling expenses combined (a $5 increase from the 2008 limit).
